The Women's Press Project started in 1974 in San Francisco as part of a non-profit women's vocational school at the Women's Skills Center. The main purpose was to teach women the skills of the printing trade. Up Press was formed out of the People's Union in 1972 as a collectively run movement press, printing political and feminist work.
